      The Domain Name System (DNS) is a hierarchical and decentralized naming system for. A DNS name server is a server that stores the DNS records for a domain; a DNS name server responds with answers to queries against its database.
A DNS server is a computer server that contains a database of public IP addresses and their associated host names. In most cases serves to resolve, or translate, those names to IP addresses as requested. DNS servers run special software and communicate with each other using special protocols

      The Internet however, is really based on IP addresses. Every time you use a domain name, therefore, a DNS service must translate the name into the corresponding IP address. For example, the domain name www.example.com might translate to 198.105.232.4.

Working of DNS.

      Computers and other network devices on the internet use an IP address to route your request to the site you're trying to reach. Instead, you just connect through a domain name server, also called a DNS server or name server, which manages a massive database that maps domain names to IP addresses.
